Lakme Fashion Week also bans thin models

Lakme Fashion week is following in the footsteps of Milan banning models with low BMI. Painfully thin models will no more be allowed to do any catwalk in the fashion week.
The Lakme fashion advisory board has reached the consensus in agreement with choreographers and designers.
Lakme Lever vice-president Anil Chopra was quoted saying, ‘For an event as high profile as the Lakme Fashion Week, it’s our responsibility to project a desirable, healthy image. There are many young girls who view the models as inspiration and projecting an unhealthy notion of what beauty should be is not in our best interests. The designers, too, are in agreement as clients are not convinced of clothing that doesn’t represent the consumer. So from a business point of view as well it makes sense to have a realistic representation.’
Ace fashion designer Narendra Kumar Ahmed too says that it’s more a question of projecting a modern outlook and promoting a healthy image at the same time.
Model Bhavna Sharma iterates Narendra’s statement saying that Indian models are never too tensed about being too thin.
